Tippmanns 98 custom is a good starter woodsball marker. It is one of the most durable and reliable markers made. But it is kinda bulky and is only good for woodsball so if you plan on playing speedball you will want a faster and lighter marker. Tippmann 98 sell for about $90 to $110 new or about $150 for a starter pack, The starter pack sounds like a good idea but the mask in it sucks and the co2 tank in it is small and co2 is a unpredictable gas to use.
Another good marker is the azodin kaos. It is just as reliable as the tippmann and is lighter and can shoot a lot faster. It is a great design marker and very simple to maintain. They cost about $80 to $100 new for the marker. The kaos is good for woodsball and speedball. It is a great marker.
A step up from the kaos is the blitz. The blitz is about $180 new and comes with an electronic trigger, anti chop eyes, zero kick hammer, and low operation. This is just like the kaos but has a electronic trigger that will let you fire a lot faster and lighter trigger pull, also you can fire semi auto, full auto, and burst and ramping modes. The zero kick setup makes this marker have very low kick to it which is nice when you play a lot and allows your shots to be more consistent and accurate. The low operation means this marker takes less air to operate so you will get more shots per tank.
Also stay away from spyder markers. They are ok but you can get a azodin or pmi marker that will be cheaper or the same price and be a lot better quality and use industry standard fittings and parts.
Tippmann is one of the best to get because you can drop it any number of times and it will not break. Do not get a spyder because i have had friends that play with them and the guns jammed up in 3 shots. My friend ended up getting a tippmann after that too.
I do not know a single person that I know that hasn’t owned and/or used a Spyder. In my honest opinion, Spyder is a great beginner/intermediate gun. Don’t listen to "jyoung" as he never has owned nor experienced a Spyder but only herd about it from a friend. I believe on all the guns they created have different firing modes. I recommend the Spyder Pilot or Spyder Electra. I owned both guns and both worked out great. In the market today, they are rather low priced. But if your on a rather low budget, try and grab the Spyder Pilot.
Another good beginner/intermediate marker is obviously the Tippmann 98. It is a very durable gun. The Tippmann 98 is the most customizable marker out on the market today. If your into upgrading things, this gun is great for you. You basically can turn it into anything you want. From a Sniper to a Full Automatic Marker, you can imagine basically anything onto this marker. Right out of the box, the marker is set as a Single-Action marker. There is no what so ever electronic part in the gun… until you add that feature.
In conclusion, buy the Spyder if you feel as though you want an electronic gun or buy the Tippmann if your into customizing guns.
